Residential Enhanced Heat Pump Rebates
Beginning in 2024, WMGLD is offer increased Heat Pump rebates if customers meet other specific requirements. There are three rebate paths for customers, heat pump rebate (existing rebate), heat pump with insulation bundle, and heat pump replacing fossil fuel rebate. To apply for the new Enhanced Heat Pumps Rebates, fill out the FORM once necessary steps (listed below) have been completed. If you are NOT planning on insulation or replacing a fossil fuel heat system completely, make sure to go to our heat pump rebate page. See below for more information on the requirements for the enhanced rebates.
Heat Pump & Insulation Bundle
New in 2024 is the WMGLD Heat Pump w/Insulation bundle. For customers installing heat pumps and insulation together (within 3 months of each other), customers will be eligible for enhanced rebates on both the heat pump and insulation. By bundling these improvements together, a customer is able to allows to exceed the traditional annual rebate cap in a calendar year ($2,500). The heat pump rebate is enhanced to $750 per ton up to $3,000 and insulation rebate is increased to 50% of the cost up to $2,500. It is important to note that insulation must be of $1,000 or greater value, and performed by a contractor to be eligible for this bundle. The following are the steps necessary to qualify for these enhanced rebates:

Insulation Steps Explained:
Home Energy Audit through NextZero – Customers must have an energy audit performed before insulation work is done. If a customer has received a home energy audit in the last few years, this step is considered fulfilled. To schedule a home energy audit call NextZero at (888)-333-7525 to schedule an energy audit.
Hiring Contractor For Installation – Customer must find and hire contractor to complete insulation improvements. Important to note that to qualify for the enhanced rebates, the total cost of insulation improvements to the customer must be at or exceed $1,000.
Post-Audit through NextZero – Once improvements are completed, customers will need to call NextZero at (888)-333-7525 to schedule a post audit inspection.
Rebate Application – Customers must make sure to keep original energy audit, post-audit, and receipts in an accessible place because these documents will be submitted with the rebate form. Once heat pump and insulation steps are completed, customers should fill out the Enhanced Heat Pump Rebates Form. See below for Heat Pump specific steps.
Heat Pump Steps Explained:
Consult with Abode Prior to Installation (Optional) – Abode is WMGLD’s heat pump consultant that is hired to help customers along the entire heat pump process, from education to insulation. They can work with a customer’s contractor to ensure sizing and design makes sense for the Heat Pump before installation. Additionally they can verify that proposed equipment meets WMGLD’s efficiency standards to be eligible for the rebate. The list of qualifying equipment can be found HERE. Hiring Contractor For Installation – Once a customer is educated on heat pumps and intends to install, a customer must hire a contractor to install heat pumps. WMGLD highly recommends that customers verify contractor is familiar with qualifying equipment from the NEEP Cold Climate list.
Post-Installation QA through Abode – Once heat pumps are installed customers must have their contractors fill out the Post-Installation QA through Abode, which can be found at the following LINK.
Rebate Application – In combination with the insulation information as described above, customers must also submit the heat pump specific information requested in the Enhanced Heat Pump Rebates Form. Please do not submit an application until all steps listed above for insulation AND heat pumps have been completed as described.
Heat Pumps Completely Replacing Fossil Fuel System
Additional to the heat pump with insulation bundle WMGLD is introducing further enhanced rebates for customers that completely replace their old fossil fuel heating systems with heat pumps. To fully maximize the increase in the rebates, customers are encouraged to have insulation installed with their heat pumps. The enhanced rebates are as follows: $1,000 per ton up to $5,000 for heat pumps and 50% of the cost up to $2,500 for insulation, for a maximum total rebate of $7,500. Insulation is not necessary to take advantage of the enhanced heat pump rebates for this offering, however it allows customers to increase their home efficiency and maximize rebate value. The steps for this process are the same as described in the heat pump & insulation bundle listed above, however there is one additional step. Customers will have to verify that they have removed or disconnected their old fossil fuel system. WMGLD will not allow customers to keep the fossil fuel system as a back-up to qualify for the $1,000 per ton rebate enhancement.

Removal Options For Old Fossil Fuel System:
During the Post-Installation QA through Abode, there will be a question about the method of removal for the old fossil fuel system. Here are the two options for removal of old fossil fuel system:
Physically remove from the location – Customers can choose to disconnect and physically remove their old system from the location.
Disconnect system – Alternatively if customers do not physically remove the system, customers can disconnect their old fossil fuel system. Pre-existing system must be disconnected from electric panels and must have fuel lines disconnected and capped.
