Home Efficiency Improvement Program

Home Efficiency Improvement Program

The WMGLD Home Efficiency Improvement Program for energy efficient improvements is performed in cooperation with the Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC) NextZero program. WMGLD residential customers who have an energy analysis (energy audit) may be eligible to receive rebates for the purchase of qualified energy improvements they make – up to $1,500. The WMGLD also offers Appliance, Heating and Cooling, and EV Charger Rebate Programs in addition to the Home Improvement Rebate Program.

Program Overview

Home Efficiency Improvement Program is designed to assist customers with the cost of installation for the most cost-effective measures recommended in a home energy audit. We encourage you to proceed with the installation of those conservation measures that best suit your energy needs and are listed on your Home Energy Report. General rule for cost-effective home energy efficiency: insulate and air-seal first.

How It Works

  1. Customers must first call the toll-free NextZero at (888) 333-7525 to schedule an energy audit.
  2. The energy conservation specialist will make recommendations and customers can choose to make the energy improvements.
  3. Once the improvements are complete, customers will need to call the NextZero at (888) 333-7525 to schedule a post audit inspection.
  4. After the post audit inspection has been completed, customers must submit their application and receipts along with the pre and post audit results. WMGLD issues a rebate of 50% (up to $1,500) on insulation and air sealing, and $50 for each window (up to $500) of the qualifying improvements, up to $1,500 annually. (This incentive is available only to the residential customer of record.)

Qualifying energy improvements include:

  • Insulation and Air Sealing – 50% up to $1,500.
  • Windows- Energy Star labeled with a U-factor of (less than sign) 0.2- $50 each up to $500.
REMEMBER — all work reimbursed by the WMGLD incentive rebate program must come from the recommendation made in the energy audit. There will be no exceptions. This incentive is only available to WMGLD residential customers. The program is funded by the WMGLD and once funds are depleted, the program will end for the year. Incentive rebates under the Incentive Rebate Program are capped at $1,500 annually.* To be eligible to receive a rebate, all improvements must have occurred within 6 months of application. *Rebate will be applied directly to customer account as a credit.
